STAND was founded by two scrappy high school students from Pittsburgh, PA, but we can’t do it alone! We’re currently looking for civically-engaged high school students from across the country to serve as STAND Fellows!
Why become a Fellow?
Becoming a STAND Fellow poses a really cool opportunity for you to get in on the ground level of a rapidly-growing national organization. Our Fellowship program is pretty unstructured. We’re looking for kids who are truly passionate about igniting civic engagement and promoting STAND across the country, who are willing to work autonomously towards our goals as an organization.
Not only does becoming a Fellow include some pretty cool perks, but it also connects you to a group of other driven Fellows from across the country excited about civic work! We want to create a network of high school changemakers eager to help eachother out on collaborative projects nationwide.
What do Fellows do?
fellows create campaigns
Each of our Fellows will spearhead his or her own campaign and run it through the STAND platform. This will be your major personal project throughout your time on our team. You’ll be the one brainstorming, drafting, publishing, and spreading your campaign — with the help of the STAND Team and the other Fellows, of course!
For an example of what a STAND campaign looks like, check out our first campaign — Suit Up — here.
fellows work with the team
As a STAND Fellow, you commit to a Skype call with the team at least once every two months or so. We expect these to be productive yet informal. It’ll be a good way to check in with everyone and update one another on our respective projects, but, at the end of the day, we’re all just high school students! We stress about college apps, homework, sports, debate, whatever it is you do. We want the STAND fellowship not only to foster professional relationships, but friendships as well!
FELLOWS SPREAD stand in their circles
As a Fellow, you’ll leverage your connections in your individual circles to help spread STAND and our mission. We can do all the work we want putting together campaigns, but, at the end of the day, it’s no use if we can’t get our content into the hands of civically-active students nationwide to use it. That’s where you come in! We want you to help us introduce STAND to your individual communities and identify key points of contact to whom we can spread our work.
We’re also looking for two Fellows to serve specialty positions within the STAND Team.
Our Outreach Director will help manage our website and social media presence. We’re also interested in bringing on Journalism Fellow to help us spearhead a STAND blog to feature student-let initiatives from across the country.
If either of these specialty positions interest you, there will be a place to denote your interest on our preliminary application.
How to become a Fellow?
APPLY — First, submit an application below. It’s just a few quick questions to help us get to know you better. Seriously, don’t stress about it! We’ll be accepting preliminary applications throughout October and November, but applying earlier is always better.
INTERVIEW — Within a couple days after submitting your preliminary application, someone from the team will reach out to schedule a time for us to talk over Skype. Just like the written application, this is just another way for us to get to know you better and see if you’d be a good fit for our Fellowship.
DECISION — You’ll hear back from us on whether or not you’ve been selected to be a Fellow within a couple days after your interview.
We can’t wait to hear from you!
