Get to know the STAND Team!
Each of our team members brings his or her own unique passions and interests into our collective fight for increased civic action among high school students. From coast to coast, we’re working on projects to get equally-passionate teens to stand up for what they believe in. Sound like you? Learn more about opportunities to get involved here.
Mishon Levine, President & Co-founder
Mishon is a junior at Sewickley Academy in Pittsburgh, PA and enjoys a wide variety of interests and hobbies. Involved in the Debate Club and Mock Trial Team, she can typically be found talking with her friends about politics or the meaning of life. Mishon currently performs on the violin for the Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra; when not playing classical music, she's having fun on the electric guitar with an all-girl rock band. In addition, Mishon plays tennis, is on the varsity softball team, and (when feeling sentimental) writes. Outside of Pittsburgh, her passion lies in traveling around the world to hike with her family and two dogs.
Luke Tyson, President & co-founder
Also a junior at Sewickley Academy, Luke loves to find new ways to engage with his community. A huge travel buff, Luke spent his last two summers in India and Morocco, intensively studying Hindi and picking up some Arabic, respectively. Having studied everything from French and Spanish to Zulu and Swahili, Luke believes the best way to learn about another culture is through language. Additionally, Luke spends his time prepping for MUN conferences or competing on the national debate circuit. When not on the road or in a debate round, one can typically find Luke with his nose buried in the New York Times or logging hours on Rosetta Stone.
Bobo Liang, media
A senior at Sewickley Academy, Bobo has thrown herself into Pittsburgh’s music scene. Not only is Bobo the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra’s principal cellist, but she also knows her way around a piano. Outside of music, Bobo has a passion for the ice, as both a figure skater and the manager of her school’s ice hockey team. She is also trained in traditional Chinese dance. Outside of all that Bobo does in her community, in her free time one can find find her training at the gym, practicing her music, or globetrotting with her family.
Alex Hevko, outreach
Alex, a junior at Mundelein High School in Chicago, loves to find new ways to give back to a community that has given her so much. For instance, she enjoys channeling her passions for international relations and diplomacy into her work for her school’s chapter of the National Honors Society as well as at the University of Chicago’s annual Model UN Conference. As a Ukrainian-American, Alex fluent in three languages — Ukrainian, English, and Russian — and loves traveling all around the world to experience new cultures.
Ella Zhou, operations
Ella is a sophomore at Sewickley Academy and is thrilled to be a part of the STAND Team. After moving schools in the ninth grade, Ella sought out as many opportunities as she could to engage with and acclimate to her new community — a goal that has led her to leadership roles in her school’s Key Club and chapter of the International Thespian Society, among others. Co-president of the Tech Theater Club, Ella spends much of her free time setting light cues or messing around on the sound board for an upcoming production.
